On July 9, 2024, under the arrangement of Takaoka IP advisor Kenichi Nagasawa, a group from Takaoka IP, including partners, patent attorneys, public relations staff, paralegals, interns, and new employees, visited the Japan Patent Office. This visit, organized by Ishida from the public relations team, was part of our comprehensive training program aimed at enhancing the understanding of intellectual property processes among our team.
During the visit, participants had the valuable opportunity to hear from examiners about the patent, trademark, and design examination processes. Discussions were conducted in both Japanese and English, allowing all attendees to engage fully and gain a deeper understanding of the procedures and policies at the Japan Patent Office.
The visit was made possible through the strong connections of Kenichi Nagasawa, the former Canon IP director, with high-ranking officials at the JPO. This relationship provides Takaoka IP with unique insights into the strategies and practices at the JPO, directly benefiting our prosecution of patent and trademark applications. By leveraging these connections, we can better navigate the complexities of the intellectual property landscape, ensuring more effective and efficient service for our clients.
Key Takeaways:
- Enhanced Understanding of Examination Processes: The team gained in-depth knowledge about the latest patent, trademark, and design examination procedures, which will improve the quality and efficiency of our application submissions.
- Strategic Insights: Access to high-level discussions on legislative amendments and internal JPO changes provides our team with strategic advantages in IP prosecution.
- Bilingual Engagement: Conducting discussions in both Japanese and English ensures that our international clients benefit from the most up-to-date information and practices at the JPO.
- Stronger Client Service: These insights enable us to offer more informed and strategic advice to our clients, enhancing the overall service experience.
This visit was highly educational and beneficial for our team, and we look forward to organizing similar visits in the future.
