As depicted in Figure 1-1-1 of the report, patent applications surged from 289,530 in 2022 to 300,133 in 2023, marking a significant recovery surpassing the 300,000 mark. This increase underscores the heightened intellectual property activities among Japanese enterprises and the escalating importance of patents within the Japanese market.
Furthermore, Figure 1-1-6 highlights the Top 10 Companies with the Most Number of Patent Registrations in 2023 among Domestic Companies. Notably, Canon Inc. reclaimed the top position, securing 3,866 patents, up from last year’s third position. Meanwhile, Toyota Motor Corporation, last year’s leader, ranked third with 3,555 patents. Mitsubishi Electric Corporation maintained its second position with 3,694 patents.
Of particular interest, companies such as Sumitomo Corporation and Sanyo Bussan Co., Ltd. significantly increased their patent applications, securing positions within the top 10 after previously ranking below the eleventh spot.
