In order to register a trademark with the Japan Patent Office, a trademark application must be filed. The application requires basic information, such as the following:
- The trademark
- The goods or services for which the owner of the trademark intends to use the trademark
- The International Class to which the goods or services belong
- The name and the address of the owner of the trademark
- Priority claim (if any)
When the owner claims a priority from a first trademark application, a priority document needs to be filed within 3 months from the filing date. A power of attorney is not required at the time of filing of the trademark application. The power of attorney might be required to abandon or withdraw the trademark application.
